EVENT: Key insights into the sustainable investing capabilities of private banks — 2019 report launch

--

When we announced that we would be releasing the third Sustainable Investing Capabilities of Private Banks report again this year many asked: “Why so soon?” The report demands considerable resources from participating banks — let alone from us. But in this case, the push came from the industry; some of last year’s participants were eager to show the changes they have implemented and others wanted to participate for the first time in order to highlight their efforts.

Now it is time to look at the findings!

Based on the 2018 report with 15 banks, the 2019 report now outlines and compares the capabilities of 20 banks, such as UBS, HSBC, and BNP Paribas. The project is developed in close collaboration with the participating banks, and also led to a currently ongoing research project with BAFU (Swiss Federal Office for the Environment) which will be mentioned at the event.

Further, the report features two special topics:

  1. The impact of the EU Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth, and
  2. Private banking and its alignment with international environmental goals, such as the Paris Agreement.

Some of the key findings of the 2019 report include:

  • Sustainable investing (SI) offerings have improved in terms of range and depth. The average number of dedicated SI funds per bank increased from 30 to 58.
  • Clients’ expectations of SI services remain unmet. Only 1/3 of participating banks have mandatory SI training for client-facing employees.
  • Most private banks fail to proactively implement changes to meet international environmental goals and the focus tends to be on the assessment of the climate risk of investment portfolios.

To get the full picture of the findings, we welcome you to join us for the report launch apéro on Tuesday 5th of November at 17.30 at Restaurant UniTurm.
